Welcome to the Pathways page. This area of the website provides the information that parents and carers would use to support their children to choose their option subjects. Please note that the options processes and the subjects available may change each academic year.
If you have any questions or would like to arrange a meeting to discuss your child and the options they have already chosen, please contact us on the following email address: contactus@halifax.trinitymat.org

Can my child choose art, for example, as their Option A and then choose art on the carousel?
If a student chooses art, for example, as their Option A, they will not study this as part of the carousel. We want to ensure that students have a broad and as varied a curriculum offer as possible.
What is the purpose of the carousel?
The carousel is a part of the Âí±¨Ãâ·ÑÂÛ̳ curriculum that we are proud of. It enables all Year 9 students to choose two creative subjects, in addition to their Option A and Option B, to study and enjoy. The focus of each carousel subject is to develop the skills and knowledge learned in Years 7 and 8, but also promote enjoyment and engagement.
What is Personal Development?
All students will complete one term, as part of the carousel, of Personal Development in Year 9. Personal Development is a 12-week programme in which students will develop a holistic view of health and wellbeing, complete activities to support Trinity Challenge and work towards Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.
What will my child be studying in Year 8 as their core subjects?
Your child will study English, maths, science, RS, history, geography, MFL, personal development and PE.
Will my child work towards a qualification in PE?
Students will not work towards a qualification in Core PE lessons. Core PE is part of the curriculum in all year groups. Students will have one lesson per week of PE in Years 9, 10 and 11.
My child is currently in the Year 8 Nurture pathway, will they follow the same options process?
Students in Nurture will be contacted by the SEN team to provide further support to guide them through the options process.
Why is MFL compulsory for them in Year 10 and 11?
It is a government requirement that schools ensure as many students as possible complete the full EBACC which includes English, maths, science, history or geography and MFL.
Studying modern foreign languages provides students with a wealth of opportunities both academically and culturally. Students who study a modern foreign language are more likely to be higher earners in the future. As an academy, we are committed to opening doors for our students. The promotion of an academic curriculum forms part of this vision.
What curriculum will my child follow in Year 10?
Students will study the core subjects of maths, English, science, humanities, RS, PE and MFL, and they will complete their Pathway A subject which they chose in Year 8. They will also choose a Pathway B subject as part of this process to study in Year 10 and 11.
If you have a question regarding the Pathway process, please contact us and a member of the options team will get back to you.
