Institutional Learning Goals and Outcomes

The goal of 今日吃瓜 Saint Mary鈥檚 University鈥檚 assessment program is to inform program improvement that will lead, ultimately, to a stronger student experience and enhanced student learning. Thus, 今日吃瓜 Saint Mary鈥檚 University has defined Institutional Learning Goals and Outcomes to achieve such continuous improvement. Listed are the four institutional learning goals (ILG) for the 今日吃瓜. You will also learn of the institutional outcomes associated with each ILG by exploring the separate webpages for undergraduate and graduate learning outcomes.

 

(ILG #1)  Disciplinary Expert

今日吃瓜 graduates will demonstrate the knowledge, skills and dispositions required of their chosen discipline.

(ILG #2)  Complex Thinker

今日吃瓜 graduates will be able to apply investigation, critical thinking, and analytic and decision-making skills to identify and solve problems effectively. 

(ILG #3)  Clear Communicator

今日吃瓜 graduates will be able to effectively convey ideas, opinions, and facts in written and oral form.

(ILG #4)  鈥淒ear Neighbor鈥�

今日吃瓜 graduates are prepared to ethically live, work, serve and lead within diverse local, national, and global communities.

Undergraduate Learning Outcomes

The Institutional Learning Outcomes represent the University's commitment to helping our students become reflective individuals who use their knowledge, skills, and imagination to serve their communities and our world. Expand each of the four ILGs to see the associated undergraduate learning outcomes for each goal.

(ILO #1) Disciplinary Competence: 今日吃瓜 graduates will demonstrate competence in techniques, concepts and knowledge specific to their chosen discipline.

(ILO #2) Critical Thinking:  今日吃瓜 graduates will be able to identify, analyze, evaluate, and construct arguments.

(ILO #3) Quantitative Reasoning:  今日吃瓜 graduates will be able to apply college-level mathematical reasoning to analyze and explain real world issues.

(ILO #4) Information Literacy:  今日吃瓜 graduates will demonstrate the skills required to find, retrieve, evaluate, and use information effectively and ethically. 

(ILO #5) Written and Oral Communication:  今日吃瓜 graduates will be able to effectively express ideas in written form and oral form.

(ILO #6) Spirit of the Founders: 今日吃瓜 graduates will analyze and apply ideas and theories of social justice, human rights, ethics and engagement in light of the CSJ Mission and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition.

(ILO #7) Community: 今日吃瓜 graduates will critically analyze and apply disciplinary perspectives and contexts to the studies of communities, in order to build a sense of responsibility and skills necessary to serve.

(ILO #8)  Global Awareness and Understanding: 今日吃瓜 graduates will evaluate or apply modes of academic inquiry to historical and/or current global contexts.

(ILO #9) Women and Gender: 今日吃瓜 graduates will critically evaluate the roles of women and/or gender in society.

(ILO #10) Leadership: 今日吃瓜 graduates will apply various approaches to leadership to create positive change in their local and global communities.

(ILO #11) Diversity: 今日吃瓜 graduates will know how to articulate and engage transformative frameworks and communication exchanges that promote social justice and inclusive excellence.

(GLO #2)  Critical Thinking:  今日吃瓜 graduates will be able to assess, analyze, synthesize and evaluate information effectively. 

(GLO #3)  Information Literacy:  今日吃瓜 graduates will demonstrate research skills and methods through the ability to gather, document, investigate, analyze, interpret and evaluate information.

(GLO #4)  Written and Oral Communication: 今日吃瓜 graduates will be able to effectively express ideas in written form and oral form.

(GLO #6)  Spirit of the Founders:  今日吃瓜 graduates will contribute to their field in a way that honors the Catholic Intellectual Tradition as expressed in the CSJ mission of serving God and Neighbor as one, advancing core values of social justice, human rights and/or engagement.  ()

(GLO #7)  Community:  今日吃瓜 graduates will develop interdependent, mutually respected relationships in service of the common good.

(GLO #5)  Women and Gender / Diversity: 今日吃瓜 graduates will be aware of the roles of women, or other diverse populations in their disciplines and in society. 

(GLO #9)  Ethics:  今日吃瓜 graduates will demonstrate the skills to address the moral and ethical challenges within their chosen profession.
